christopher barrett : _

is an emerging young artist of the cut and paste age his work concerns itself with the art of simplification.

Drawing on questions of religion, heightened and not so heightened world events... and the need for constant reflection of progression in the life of our self styled human clocks;
Christopher recognises his work comes from a need to box up much of our perceptions of the world. Which often stunts the balance of life through perfect and packaged ideals 'that nature has given us the belief and ability to do' but then again these ideals offer little in the way of practical solutions..

Following the line of much thought about self contemplation questions (what's it all about?..and such) that are not far from most of our lips in the ever increasing race to reflect in the quickening decades of the information metropolis where we co-exist in the dilution of fact to balance the E numbers of attractive imagery this simplistic style is Christopher's focus as an artist.

'My work has a deep systematic quality running through it, often from its own self righteous need to exist...the work creates itself from a formula in the text or numerical threads that derive from scientific or religious theorems, mass media speculations, political trends...which we are all susceptible to.
Word play and number theory are tools i enjoy playing with... much friction and activity in the brain comes from this and i like to see in what way they can turn 'idea' into the security of a solid idea enjoyed by group confidence.

I think we often forget that we have built the foundation of humanity out of waste as much as progress...and within a world of simplification that often appears to eradicate waste we forget that waste is also a concept of wo/man and will inevitability follow him or her to the grave'

Chris also works as a documentary photographer who has recently visited north Korea. Using his photography as research to his artistic practise Chris sees himself as more or an artist than a photographer.

Chris studied Fine Art at Nottingham Trent University and Warwick college of Art and Design in the U.K..
